Weyermann Carafoam® is a type of dextrin malt that is used primarily to enhance the body, mouthfeel, and foam stability of beers without contributing much color or flavor. It has a color rating of around 1.5 to 3 Lovibond. Carafoam® does not add any significant sweetness, but it helps in creating a fuller, rounder body and improves the overall balance and drinkability of the beer.
Given its functionality, Weyermann Carafoam® is a versatile malt and can be used across a broad spectrum of beer styles, including but not limited to:
- Lagers and Pilsners: Carafoam® is suitable for enhancing the body and head retention of these lighter, crisper beer styles without affecting their color or flavor profile significantly.
- Pale Ales and IPAs: It can be used to balance the hop bitterness and add body to these popular ale styles.
- Wheat Beers: The malt contributes to the foam stability, which is a desirable characteristic in wheat beers.
- Session Beers: For lower-alcohol beers that may lack body, Carafoam® is useful in improving mouthfeel and balance.
- Any Style Prioritizing Foam Stability: From Belgian ales to stouts, any beer style that benefits from enhanced head retention and a fuller body can utilize Carafoam®.
